The Old Fashioned, sometimes referred to as the “Whiskey Cocktail,” has been name-dropped in bars across the country since the 1880s. It is thought that the name came from people asking for an “old fashioned” drink instead of the new, more complex cocktails that were becoming increasingly popular. We recommend adding a splash of Clarksburg Semi-Sweet Hard Cider to this classic recipe for some added fruitiness and balance. You can also customize your cocktail with different seasonal ciders, depending on the time of the year. If you’re using a sweeter cider, you can also play around with the amount of simple syrup you use in the recipe. Now is also the time to break out the large silicone ice-cube tray you have in the back of your freezer. Because this cocktail is so spirit-forward, large ice helps to delay diluting the cocktail as you drink it. Enjoy a Cider Old Fashioned before or after your holiday dinner, on a cool evening, or anytime you want to relax!
