Assistant Cidermaker

We’re looking for a hands-on Assistant Cidermaker who wants to learn all the ins and outs of the cider world. You’ll assist our Head Cidermaker, ownership, and external vendors in the production of cider and other products for Clarksburg Cider.

We’re not just looking for an order-taker, but someone who is comfortable working on and with production equipment. This includes repairs, calibration and routine maintenance. You can take ownership of projects and use feedback in a constructive way. If you’re a go-getter with a positive attitude, then this gig’s for you.

Job Functions

  • Assists in production, cleaning, packaging, and other duties within the cider production facility.
  • Understands and works within all OSHA guidelines.
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned by your supervisor and ownership.
  • Implements and keeps maintenance logs on all equipment and services.
  • Assists with agricultural operations for the cultivation of apple trees. 


Responsibilities

  • Equipment, tank, keg, and barrel preparation, maintenance, and cleaning.
  • Assist with filtration, canning and bottling operations.
  • Implement Head Cider Maker’s quality controls and standard operating procedures for all cellar/harvest procedures.
  • Perform inventories of bulk cider, kegs, barrels, fittings, and dry good supplies.
  • Keep track of all cellar inventories and proprietary database.
  • Track topping and barrel maintenance deadlines.
  • Learn and understand State and Federal safety requirements for cideries.
  • Provide ideas to improve quality and productivity.
  • Maintain the highest standards for cleanliness and ensure a continuously clean, sanitized cellar environment.
  • Involved with planning for future development in line with strategic business objectives.
  • Working directly with staff to ensure all daily work is met and preventative maintenance is managed.
  • Assist with events as necessary.


Essential Qualifications:

  • Basic construction skills (carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting more than 50 lbs., 8-hour days on feet, etc.
  • Ability to work as a team with senior staff members and pick up work midstream.
  • Ability to take ownership of work and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal).
  • Attention to detail; strong organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Working Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to interact with co-workers, vendors, and clients, communicating in person or via telephone or computer. The employee may be required to sit for long periods of time, and use a computer monitor, keyboard, and mouse.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions on facility grounds. Noise level may be loud at times.
  • Physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day.
  • The employee must be able to lift more than 50 lbs. Vision requirements for this position include, close vision, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception and focus ability.
  • The employee shows comfort at heights of up to 26 feet.
